Server-side Document Converter
ArtistScope uses the Universal Document Converter (UDC)
in their DRM Enterprise application to convert a variety of document formats to
suitable outputs for image encryption and PDF encryption by ArtistScope's server
side tools.
UDC Overview
Universal Document Converter is the most complete solution for the conversion of
documents of any type into Adobe PDF or graphical files. The underlying basis of
Universal Document Converter is the technology of virtual printing. As a result,
exporting Microsoft Word documents, Microsoft Excel tables, Microsoft PowerPoint
presentations and Autodesk AutoCAD drawings into a chosen format is not any more
complicated than printing on a desktop printer.
Universal Document Converter can assist you in preparing documents to be
published on websites, protect them from unsanctioned copying and changes when
sent by email, save tons of time while preparing PowerPoint presentations, and
also simplify the process of sending materials to the print shop or publisher. In

Virtual Printer Technology
Universal Document Converter is created with the help of virtual printer
technology.
How does it work?
The converted document is first loaded into an editor or viewer program
optimized to work with documents of this type, e.g. Adobe Acrobat for a PDF
file, Microsoft Word for a DOC or RTF file, Autodesk AutoCAD for a DWG and DXF
file etc. Once the Print button is pressed, the editor program converts the
document into a set of Windows GDI commands. This set is then sent to Universal
Document Converter. Thus UDC does not have to process syntax of various document
types. It deals only with Windows GDI commands, which are few in number. This
approach helps us reduce possible input data formats to one, making Universal
Document Converter a truly universal and reliable tool able to convert any type
of documents.
