ArtistScope Web Encrypt - FAQs
How does ArtistScope Web Encrypt compare with
similar products?
ArtistScope Web Encrypt is a much more secure solution. Most
html encryption solutions rely on JavaScript functions for
encryption and decryption... unfortunately those JavaScript
functions need to be wholly on the page to operate client
side and therefore expose the encryption algorithm and the
key for decryption. Whereas Web Encrypt's decryption is
wholly server side and only displays the decrypted web page
if all things are in order and the user is allowed to read
the page..
Can I use Web Encrypt on any web
site?
No. Web Encrypt requires that the web site have support for
ASP and either Access or MS-SQL databases. Most web sites
running FrontPage extensions will be ideal.
Is ArtistScope Web Encrypt compatible with
other portal solutions?
Yes and no. Web Encrypt can provide a total solution for web
site creation and as such would be separate to any other
portal solution already creating pages on the fly. However
what it produces can be included in the web site or other
web pages by hard coding or using an iFrame.
Will search engines be able to
spider my Web Encrypt pages?
No. Web Encrypt includes some functions for analyzing the
page request and will only allow proper web browser access.
If the request dos not qualify then nothing is delivered
except a blank page.
Will Web Encrypt protect links to my
movie files and other media?
Yes. Unless the web page is decrypted then the links for any
media on the page will be protected.. that is unless the
visitor has already visited the page properly in which case
the downloading software may be able to retrieve links from
the cached web page.
Will Web Encrypt protect from
site grabbers and downloaders?
Absolutely. Web Encrypt first checks that a visitor is
actually using a web browser and properly visiting otherwise
page will be inaccessible. By "inaccessible" meaning that it
cannot be read by the numerous softwares available today
designed specifically to download your web pages and even
copy your entire web site. Because the HTML will not display
then any links pointing to images and other media files are
also protected and cannot be downloaded... that is until you
allow the page to download and decrypt to display is
original form.
Can Web Encrypt be hacked once the page
is downloaded?
No! Unlike other html encryptions that use JavaScript which
provides everything client side for a would be hacker to
play with, Web Encrypt's functions are server side and the
visitor will only get to read the page if they are
authorized, ie: actually viewing the gage in a web browser
and/or any other requirements that you nominate. The page
that may be downloaded by any other means will contain
nothing.
Why doesn't ArtistScope provide encryption for normal web pages?
To provide a web page encryption/decryption solution that
works on any web page like normal .html pages would require
that the encryption functions are performed by JavaScript so
that it can run on a such a web page. As previously
mentioned JavaScript should never be considered as an option
where security is required, and anyone claiming that
JavaScript will provide protection for anything is taking
advantage of your naivety.
What if I don't have a web site
with ASP and Access support?
They are available from web hosting services if you look for
them, and at the same prices as PHP hosting. You just have
to look closely because most hosting services are running
Linux servers (because their software is free and Open
Source) and there are so many of them. Look for Windows
servers and Frontpage.
