What platform are you using? Are you starting the program from the desktop icon or the EXE? If the icon's link to the exe is broken (caused by moving folders around), the program may still run, but it will give weird errors such as this one. Also, the content it produces may be corrupted. Warnings about starting the application from a broken link icon are noted in the email sent with the program, in the install instructions and also in the trouble shooting guide.

Next thing to consider is what security applications do you have running or what settings may be limiting the overwriting of files? Of late there has been a lot of paranoia over file corruption by intruders/trojans etc and there are also many amateurish "security" programs available that are more trouble than they are worth... check that the defaults file and its folder still have write permissions.

If you are using XP you may need to install SIP to the Program Folder (earlier versions used to install to C:/ArtistScope). The latest installers will be found on the ArtistScope site as downloads from other places may be outdated.

When I close the secure image program, it asks me if I want to save the new setting... if I say yes it shows me an error message "Unable to save new setting due to an unknown java exception".

I am using windows 98. I have checked the shortcut path and it is correct. I have disabled all virus protection and lowered security settings, but I still get the error. When I close the program it asks to save the settings when I click yes the prompt box closes but the program does not. I have to press the close box one more time and the settings box appears once again, but this time the program will close. It doesn't seem to be writing to the ProDefaults.dat file properly.

I don't know if this has anything to do with the above problem but I am also getting an error when I try to view a protected image from my website or from the localhost through the personal web server. The applet seems to load and tries to load the .class file but comes back with could not find file.

I visited the link that you sent in both IE and Netscape browsers and it works ok.

Could you view this page locally at all? If not please check your browser preferences for Java and Security options.

Which browser are you using? We have had the occasional problem reported that was solved by uninstalling the java plugin and updating to the latest one... Netscape 7 and IE 6 plugins were buggy when first released and can also be corrupted by things like crashes and virus.

Regarding the 'save settings' problem. If you have checked that the startup icon link is correct and not broken, delete the defaults file and restart the program. It will simply make a new one... it may been corrupted by incorrect startup earlier.
