Can someone explain how to do the following? I don't know what ASCII and CHMOD are.

"- Edit the first few lines of each cgi and upload them to your cgi-bin using ASCII. Then CHMOD them 755. Note the difference between paths and urls - do not vary this. If a path is noted in the example, always use the path. If a url is used, then you can use the http:// links"

If using an FTP program you have the option of uploading in different formats. Always use 'ASCII' for cgi scripts and for images use 'Binary'. If you upload via FrontPage, you don't have worry about this as FrontPage does the selection automatically.

CHMOD is used for permission settings on files... applies to Unix/Linux servers.

NOTE: If you have a FrontPage web site do NOT set file permissions with your Ftp program. It will lock your site as FrontPage needs to control file permissions and there will be a conflict.

To adjust file permissions on a FrontPage web site... ask your webmaster.
