How large is the Plugin download required by the end user to view the images?

For IE, Netscape, Opera and Mozilla the plugin downloads for the end user (your visitor) are all about is about 260-270 kb which also includes the installer.

With regard to updates. If an end user has the v1.0 plugin installed locally and either the server has been upgraded to v1.1 or a v1.1 plugin is available, do they have to upgrade their own plugin to be able to view the images?

The site owner controls the updates. They have the option of updating the version control file or not.

When a plugin update is available, there is only one file needed to change to update all your pages if downloads are provided from our site. Otherwise, if you provide the downloads from your site, you will need to update the plugin installers also.

If you provide downloads from your own site, you do not have to update. However it is in your best interest to update when one is available to maintain that you have the latest security fixes... the visitor having a more recent version of the plugin will be ok if your site is using an earlier version as the version checking is backwards compatible.

Can you elaborate on how the ongoing free upgrades can or cannot prevent the execution of "self-written" hacker applications.

No one gets to hear about self written hacker programs so no comment can be made here. They most certainly do not contact us.

Ongoing upgrades are provided to accommodate for changes in web browsers... and to cover holes if discovered... such as new screen capture programs that may behave differently. When we get such reports from our users, fixes are applied to the next upgrade.

There are hundreds of screen capture programs available today (don't think most people know that they can simply use Printscreen for free!), and some of these use slightly different methods. So discovering that one such program is not foiled by the system could be damning to the insecure and naive. But not so as it is only a single example of such a device, and if reported to us it is fixed in the next upgrade.

By now you must realize that it is most important to keep up with the updates.
