ArtistScope
customizes Secure Image for America Online's marketing research
division.
Secure
Image, which was designed to be simple to use for the average
home user, now incorporates new features in response to customized
requirements.
Digital Marketing, America Online's marketing research division,
required a customized version that converted the same set
of images to be used on several of their development servers.
To avoid preparing a different set of images for each site,
ArtistScope developed the new registry system so that users
could add as many sites as required to the program.
Another feature required by Aol that ArtistScope was able
to meet was the reversal of the "swap image for text" feature
so that a text message is displayed first and then the user
must hold down the mouse button in order to view the image.
Having to use the mouse button in this way lessened the chances
of an image thief capturing all the images on the page with
the one stroke.
Although the features were originally required in Secure Image
2, it was found that Aol browsers are not the standard package.
Although they are named as higher version browsers, the more
recent browsers are still basically v4.0, which was not up
to supporting the Java version used in the program. (2.1-encryption,
essential to make the software run, is only supported in v4.1
browsers and later.)
