ArtistScope DRM - Frequently asked questions
Is Artis DRM compatible with
solutions like Adobe Content Server?
No. ArtistScope DRM is an alternative to other content solutions.
In fact ArtistScope DRM is much more secure because it uses a proprietary reader
specially designed for copy protection... and it's not just password protection
as it is safe from all copy including
Printscreen and screen capture software.
How does Artis DRM accessibility compare with
similar products?
ArtistScope DRM provides the most secure document protection
by far and it can be used on all Windows computers which take into account 95%
of the Internet users in the real world. The remaining 5% is comprised of Mac,
Linux and other hybrid platforms such as those used by iGadgets like phones and
tablets, and they cannot be properly secured. For example Adobe Reader uses low-strength encryption
and the documents that it uses are designed to be read on all platforms. Other
document formats like those for e-readers were never designed to be encrypted
and it will always be a waste of time trying to protect them so long as they are
to remain accessible by generic e-readers.
How does Artis DRM enforce expiration when the
others can't?
Most DRM solutions utilize tokens or certificates stored on
the user's computer. This makes them usable while offline but they are limited
to using the local computer's time for expiration checks, which means that the
user can turn back their computer time and foil such expiration. But gone are
the days of dial-up Internet and everyone these days usually has a permanent
connection, even while traveling and out in the wild. Consequently ArtistScope
DRM can use online time servers, although an author still has the option of
nominating checks by local time.
How does Artis DRM prevent
redistribution of passwords?
Usually passwords are embedded in the documents, but if a password gets
redistributed by unscrupulous persons, nothing can be done, game over. However
with ArtistScope DRM passwords are not necessary because an author can revoke a
user's access to any document at any time with immediate effect, even on
documents already downloaded to their computer.
Does ArtistScope DRM provide
watermarking?
Watermarking is totally unnecessary because they cannot be copied in any way. However if
watermarking has been applied in the original document, it
will remain after conversion.
How does Artis DRM provide more
control than other solutions?
Usually the rights of an individual to access a document are
stored on the user's computer where they are most vulnerable.
But with ArtistScope DRM those rights are stored on a remote server and both the
document and the reader are specially designed to remain secure. For example,
only the proprietary reader can decrypt the document and each query and response
sent between the reader and server uses a unique encryption key.
How is Artis DRM more
versatile for accessibility and ease of use?
To convert documents and register them into the system for DRM
administration you only need a computer, and that computer can be anywhere. No
special software is required because everything runs server-side enabling you to
protect and manage documents from anywhere, even from a mobile phone.
Webmaster's Note:
ArtistScope DRM is unlike other DRM solutions because it does not use tokens or certificates
which can be exploited, and performing a web search on
"remove DRM from eBooks", "remove DRM from PDF"
or
"extract password from PDF" will confirm just
how easy that is. Instead
ArtistScope DRM uses a remote access server (RAS) to
manage user access rights and privileges. Because
ArtistScope DRM utilizes live validation, authors have total
control over user rights and document properties with
immediate effect over any changes, even on documents
that have already been downloaded to the user's
computer. |
